Many new forms of transportation were introduced to Japan following the country's opening to the West, including the bicycles, carriages, and horse carts featured in this print, which are all clearly labeled. The rickshaw (or jinriksha) pictured here, a two-wheeled vehicle pulled by one or two men, was a relatively new Japanese invention.
